East Meets West 114 – MONO

East Meets West 114 in Mono is now available for your one-earphone, and non vomit-inducing pleasure. Please allow me to explain what happened.

The brilliant Jason Howell advised me to improve the audio by recording myself in one channel and Roger in another, thus enabling me to tweak volume individually after the show. This works great if you remember to convert to Mono. well this time I have, so enjoy this free Monaural Fidelity version of this week’s episode.

Update Dead link has been replaced and should work. I hate this episode.

  • I did a few Broca's Area podcasts with the lovely and talented Isabelle in stereo like this one came out. Some liked it, many did not. I can say that I do often listen with one earphone, especially on the bus, as I am waiting for the driver to call out 'Algoma University' ....

Thanks for another great episode. Also, thanks for going back to mono. I was walking to BART this morning and had the nagging suspicion that I was being followed because of the stereo audio. Nothing makes a commute worse than having one of your favorite podcasts make your sleep deprived brain paranoid.

    Thanks again,
    Brandon

P.S. When is the EMW UStream coming?

Wow, Mono is the way to go. The stereo episode actually gave me a headache. And, I kept wanting to test my ipod headphones thinking I blew an earbud. Please keep it mono.
  • Tom,

Have you ever seen "The Lost Skelaton of Cadavra?" It's an independent spoof of late 50s early 60's low budget sci-fi horror movies. It's pretty well done, the writers had a real feel for the bland locales, flat dialog and non-scary monsters that made those movies so great. It's even partially filmed in the Bronson Canyon part of Griffith Park(a famous b-movie filming location) The Skeleton steals the show with some awesome lines. It bogs down a bit but that's to be expected considering the material they're lampooning. Here's a link to the trailer: http://tinyurl.com/39zlrt I was sort of underwhelmed by Cinematic Titanic, i think Mike Nelson's Riff Traxx tend to be funnier.

Eons ago you were talking about your bathroom remodel. You mentioned how tile grout tends to stain. You might want to try a grout sealing product, it'll fill the pores and prevent staining. Make sure you get the right kind for the particular grout used in your shower.

Also, a while back on BOL you mentioned a potential rocket plane racing league. Do you think this will go anywhere? Personally I'd like to see a air combat league. Friday Night Dogfights! Three dimensional combat at it's best!

    Thanks Guys!

P.S. Roger, why are you so angry? Who hurt you?
  • For those of you that have read Carlos Castaneda maybe they are trying to be like Don Juan and Don Genaro whispering in to each ear trying to escort you to a higher form of consciousness. Also, now with two lines of comments I don't know which is most proper to post in.
  • Hoah! The stereo format felt so wierd. Especially I was listening when I was on the bed. It feels like you guys are beside me. Argh!!! Please don't do that again!

    Link doesn't seem to work?
  • I liked the stereo effect with each of you having your own speaker. The slight balance I corrected just panning over a bit so Tom was louder. I guess you just cannot please all of the people all of the time :)

Great minds think alike. Last year, I commissioned a drawing of a Zombie Dinosaur from Len Peralta's Monster by Mail website. The Zombie Dinosaur is framed, and hung in my dining room along with the Ninja Monster I bought from Len.

  • Yay! Although, one good thing did come of this. It made me find out that my current install of Audacity didn't come with MP3 support, so I got the package from the livna repo that has MP3 support builtin just so I could mono-ize the original 114 release. :)
