I’ll totally ignore the fact that you guys went to the Hungarian Grand Prix this past weekend and just wonder why Apple can’t let a ‘store’ fix Udayan’s MacBook under warranty despite the fact that it was purchased from Apple online. It’s the same company, right? Why can’t the store handle the repair and bill AppleCare?

This reminds me of the old Gateway 2000 stores. I stopped by a store in Livingston NJ when they were open many years ago to take a look. (I may still have a ZDTV cube from a Kate and Leo meet and greet there.) The store let you check out each model from the lineup and purchase BTO PCs at the store to be shipped to your home. They didn’t have service at the store but the sales rep said they were going to handle repair shipping from the location. Whether this was actually the case I don’t know, since neither I, nor anyone I know bought from the store. (Maybe that’s why they went out of business?)

How will Dell handle service at their new stores? On-site service? Drop off for mail-in service? ‘Sorry dude, call the 800 number” service? If I were to drop 1100 or more dollars (or was it 1100 pounds!?!) on a ‘puter I would like service handled by ANY agent of the company, local store or shipped to corporate.

If you buy a Mac from a brick and mortar Apple store can you ship it to Apple for service, or do you HAVE TO go to b&m for service?

This just sounds odd to me Udayan.

    NewOrderrr.

    PS:
Typing GW2K into the address bar of Firefox takes you to Gateway’s site, has done so for years.

I won’t spoil the results of the GP, but HOLY SH%T that was some race.
    Woot to JB of H.
    (Udayan will get it)

Sorry, one more thing. Parts 1 & 2 of Boiling Point (mp3) were great. Is the entire novel available as an audiobook? I would really be interested in getting the full version.
    Tx.

I know! Weird, right, same company – just different internal divisions. They can all read the same case notes & repair numbers, all access the same product registration databases.

I’d be more upset if the customer service guys weren’t top notch. Truly incredibly nice guys who really seemed frustrated at the limitations that company policy placed on them. Oh well, it’s all concluding with me getting a completely new machine so that’s a relief.

Congratulations to Jensen. His dad remarked “seeing my son win was better than sex”. Nice, really embarassing I’m sure. He drove well but Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen & Fernando Alonso being out certainly helped Jensen win.

As for buying at Apple Retail or Apple Online, you can get it serviced anywhere – replacements have to be done with the right division though. As I said; weird, right?

Hey, if Apple is replacing the MacBook, would they let you (and would you want to) upgrade to a black MacBook? To hide possible future discoloration and add to the coolness factor.

taking off for Georgia tomorrow. only 2,800 miles of brain-numbing, pupil-dilating, fahrfenugen.

ran across this BBC article thru The Peking Duck,

Chinese ‘anger bar’ is a big hit
A bar in eastern China has come up with a novel way of attracting clients – they are allowed to beat up the staff.
