stand clear of the closing doors, next stop: random thoughts:

    1. Yes, kev is from NY, and he does exist…(as long as it does not start any flames like the debate about the existance of Roger and the #3)

    2. bar-none, i say the car chase scene from the french connection was the best…not because it was in New York, but because of the risk factor involved by driving under a narrow subway bridge at a fangorious speed.

    3. in sports news, yes, kev’s blurb about the NFL was an original work…and i just lost $3.50 on Agassi, not alot but thanx for the support. as for baseball, its not the commercialism that gets me…its the whole unfair-ness going on, what with the steriods and all.

    4. in a slightly serious (yet still-random) note, your podcast has always been well-enjoyed by me and others for a long time. On a few occasions where i’d have bad days, i’d just listen to EMW and it always puts my mind at ease…so i thank you tom and rog, for your weekly thoughts and wisdom. And as a token of my gratitude, my brother/sidekick Kevin and I decided to put our random thoughts to further good use by making our own podcast, called “Cloverleaf+period. the audio quality’s a little bad and kev tends to ramble slightly, but then again…episode 1 of anything tends to suck. Fear not though, EP 2 will be much better…as podcasting veterans, please let us know what you both think.

Welcome back guys, once again great podcast!

    1. For the record, and I think I may have already clarified this not so long ago on a past episode, I’m no pervert :-). I figured I’d use the word “delicious” as unique substitute as opposed to the commonly-used mainstream words such as “pretty”, “beautiful”, or “sexy”. But seeing as how my “word” has backfired, I won’t use it again. I respect the ladies, is all. Ask Jon C!

    2. Yeah surprisingly enough, I did made up the fork thing in regards to my football post. I was going to say pitchfork instead of dinner fork, but the latter came into mind first. I’ll have to put a license on that. As for the argument regarding the commercialization of sport, perhaps it is due to age. As we grow a little older we grow more knowledgeable of the things we like such as sports. Still, I think the sports in the 80’s and perhaps before that time were the best.

    3. There IS a #3, inside each and every one of us :-). It surrounds us, binds us, drives us, makes us hungry…for food.

Thirty seven minutes. Get it? 37 mins for the 37th ep (oh dear guys, what happens when you hit BOL-like figures – just kidding)

But seriously, 37 minutes of EMW was fantastic. It made my morning ride to school so much more tolerable and happy. I was really not looking forward to it and I am so, so glad that it is over! Apparently I looked quite dashing in my pinstripe black suit – or at least so say the girls (not Roger’s Brazilian & Columbian girls).

One teacher said I clean up good – which left me wondering, did I look like crap the previous five years?! Anyway, with another 4 days of TWiT, BOL, Diggnation, Squacast… to listen to, I think I might be able to crawl away from this first week alive.

Wish me luck, thanks for saving my life this morning.

    Hey Guys!

I am sorry you had to tell us you missed a week! For me I just didn’t notice. No, not that you two didn’t do the podcast on time. It was due to TWIT taking off half a year because August is a slow month… UGH! It seemed like forever!

Tom, How many episode of Boiling Point will there be? I am not dropping a hint that 5 episodes is a lot. It would be very nice of you if you would include the word ‘conclusion’ after the number in the name of the final episode.

Roger, Go for both the Cuban and Brazilian experience! I suggest you start with the Cuban first then see if you can handle a brazilian. I opted to do the Brazilian first and I was tired after half a brazilian. Tom, remind me again, How many are in a brazilian?

Tom, I’d love to pay you for reading Boiling Point. I guess I can buy a copy of the book or the download. Although, if I do, then you will have my identity and you can link me to all my past TechTV and EMW stalking charges again. That wouldn’t be good if you guys do hold that TechTV reunion. I’d be in jail. Hm….

Rentals, I live in small town in California. Been here 13 years. In that period of time Rents have nearly tripled! Wages have declined! Thank you president Bush!!! I’m not bitter!

Back to the book, I suppose I could pay for the Boiling Point download and burn the Audio and Download to CD to keep just in case you die. Um, no, I’m not trying to make money off you. :-) Tom, what would you think if I handed out copies of that CD to my friends? (I’m asking before doing.) I can include your links in a TXT file or provide a PDF with your web contact info. Tell my what you think of this concept.

I like hearing you guys just shoot the breeze. You haven’t locked yourselves down to one topics. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks!

    Kelly

P.S. Is there any chance you can get reimbursed for the hotel bill since the bridge is close and you don’t want to drive your butt off getting home?

Glad you like the Boiling Point stuff. I should make it clear within the recordings and on the postings, but the MP3s of Boiling Point are Creative Commons 2.5 licensed, so youc an copy to your hearts content as long as you attribute.

My comments (Brazilian Prisioners & UC Berkeley).

    1. About the prision situation. As Roger said the “big” crimminals have control of their factions from inside the prisions. That started on early 90s with a guy called Fernandinho Beira Mar (Wich means Little Fernando next to the sea), he controlled the crimminals on Rio de Janeiro, pretty much like the Guerrilas do in Colombia, in fact he was a big drug buyer from the colombian cartels. No he’s in prison but still have control of some areas, they say that he passes the information to his lawyers that go to his “partners” outside the prison and pass on the informations and orders.

In Sao Paulo (the biggest city in South America) the crimminals are commanded by a faction called PCC (wich stands for The First Capital Commando). They started their “bussiness” in the late 90s, at first they used to demmand better conditions on the prisons (like Roger pointed), but now the thing is out control. They just want to keep their “chiefs” that are incarcerated in a loose leech. This faction is the most powerful right now. Last year they were suspected to rob a bank for Us$50 millions (from the 22 suspects of this crime, 14 are dead or in jail right now). Two weeks ago (when I posted that message) a reporter was kidnapped here and this faction demmanded that the biggest TV station had to broadcast their tape (wich sounded like Al-Qaeda thing to do). And 3 days ago they tryed to rob another bank but the police caught them, 11 were arrested…

As you can see the system is dead here. The crimminals control their army from inside the prisions like the mafiosos did, and the goverment is not doing much for it. During the wave of attacks against police officers, over 50 good men were killed by crimminals in 3 days. It’s a shame!

    2. Tom, thanks A LOT on the Craigslist tip, that site is very good, I’ll probably look for something there (In fact I already contacted a few people). I also think that a roommate would be a good thing, but I’m a little afraid of who I might end up living with. I was looking for Oakland and it might be just perfect, I want to be between Berkeley and SF.

    3. About the brazilian community, that’s good for having parties, playing soccer and eating brazilian food. But when it comes down to living together, and hanging out I had some bad, bad experiences with some brazilians while I was living in Toronto and in New Hampshire, and I hope it doesn’t happen again. Let’s just say that they are too much of a trouble, specially those that don’t know the difference between brazilain laws and american laws.

    4. What I’m a little worried is that I’d be moving to a place that I don’t know anyone, and I’ll have to live for at least 1 year. I had a lot of american friends when I lived in NH, but only 2 were close friends. Some people told me that is really hard to make friends with americans, specially californians, any true on that? Thanks again ;)

    CoolB’s Random Thoughts

1: Enjoying Boiling Point, but in the RSS feed part 2 won’t download. I downloaded it directly from a link on your blog but you might want to have it fixed so if someone finds the feed without knowing about your blog they’ll know what happens in part 2.

2: And speaking of 2 here’s thought number 2. If they did a Snakes on a Plane musical, would it be a SoaP opera?

3: I don’t care for any televised sporting events, partly cause I find them uninteresting to watch, but also because I’m bitter since when I was younger and only had over the air tv sports would keep preempting my Star Trek watching.

4: EMW is probably the only podcast that I actually have some comment to share in every episode, AND that I actually do share.

This may be more BOL, but WTF is wrong with HP with this “Pretexting”

If someone tried this stuff in Oz, someone would get a kick up the bum for this. Seriously, phone records taken on false prestence is a crime, or should be, and gaol time should happen!

Also, It is a shame and poor dumb luck about Steve Irwin. People don’t realise how urbanised Australia is, and Steve was a throwback to the “okker” or “yobbo” that is part Paul Hogan, part Chips Raffety and part Sentimental Bloke (http://www.middlemiss.org/lit/authors/denniscj/sbloke/sbloke.html), and is very much a relic in modern Australia. Most Aussies do not leave the cities, and the old style language is very much fading from usage (not least from the great aussie ‘cringe’). His love for the old lingo proberbly will be remembered here more so than his conservation efforts.

Tribalism/team loyalty in sport is something else that has gone the way of Steve Irwin. When each city in Aus had at least 8 teams per code, people lived and breathed their local team, and the players bled for their local team. When the winner of the Dally M here sought to play for the Brisbane Bronco’s and ends up winning his award for the Melbourne Storms, it says something of growing your own players (or lack of it).

    Random Thoughts:

    1) Been rediculously busy at work, couldn’t comment earlier.
    2) Wasn’t able to hear EMW 37 until tuesday morn, so i thought it was cool that you had it up the day before. I like the dedication T & R.
    3) Did I have anything to do with Udayan getting a t-shirt from BOL?
    4) Why does Patrick and Robert continue to NOT mention the existance of EMW on DL.TV? Do I need to write long posts on the DL.TV comments page? And why isn’t Roger IN FRONT OF the camera sometimes on DL.TV? Is Patrick afraid of being shown up on a live webcast by a superior (or at least more diverse) mind???
    5) I haven’t used Craigs List except to read the ‘Hey Crackhead’ article
    http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/sfo/27499971.html
but I got a link from a friend to something called Kaboo. here’s a link to the San Fran area site. It may be a Craig’s copy or may offer additional / different / better stuff. My friend hadn’t used Craig’s so I have no knowledge of both to compare.
    http://sfbayarea.kaboo.org/
    5) My favorite PC games of all time:
    1) Sid Meier’s Civilization
    2) Tom Merritt’s … I mean Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six / Rogue Spear
    3) XCOM: UFO Defence
    6) I saw the replay of Larry King Live on CNN Friday night, when he talked about Steve Irwin.
-First, I never heard of Germaine Greer, but why the heck does she have to comment negatively on Steve’s life to shortly after his fatal accident. That’s just cruel, not only to his fans and admirers, but especially to his famaly, who hasn’t even had the chance to bury the man yet.
-Second, I thought it was really cool that Steve’s friend John Stanton and Philippe Cousteau went back and finished the documentary that Steve was working on when he was struck down. That’s ture dedication to your craft and to your mates.
-Third, do you guys / gals know that the documantary Irwin was working on involved the ‘Ocean’s Deadliest’, and not only were sting rays not included, (Cousteau mentioned that they really aren’t normally dangerous) but that the final thoughts of the film is to say that Man is the deadliest creature in the ocean.
-Fourth, why is it that when I click on a video clip on CNN’s site within Firefox that I get a message saying I don’t have Windows Media Player 9 or higher when I have WMP 10?
    7) EMW 37 was much better than TWiT 67. Leo has to stop goin on vacation, or he should not do podcasts on holidays.
    8) THANK YOU for posting updates to Boiling Point! But I have Questions:
-Why do you mention that part four is an audiobook on TAPE?
-What’s the signigance of saying (as in the beginning of part 4) ‘Jeff, Two, Denver Colorado”/ What I mean is, What’s the ‘Two’ mean? The date? The month? The nation? Can you explain without giving away the story? Or does it have meaning at the end, or am I missing something mentioned earlier.
    9) Am I the only F1 fan here eagerly waiting to see if Ferrari will oust Michael Schumacher from the 2007 lineup for ‘Crashing Kimi’ Raikkonnen? Will Fernando Alonso be able to be able to hold of Schumi and secure the championship? Will Rubens Barrichello Win his third Italian Grand Prix, and his first race since Ferrari dropped him at the end of 2005? Only 5 hours to go. (Speed TV baby)
    10) You two rock. And I still beleive in Roger, I really do.
    11) You guys hate my long posts, admit it, right?

Is it just me, or has Larry King had like 5 heart attacks and 5 divorces. I guess that’d be a broken heart for each.
