Hi again guys, missed your response in the comments but I caught the response on the show. Here is that link you asked for regarding fluoride, I think the fact that Prozac is 94% fluoride supports my point rather well. You will note the link in the article to the research regarding passivity as a side effect. My main point is again that drinking it is a bad idea, rinsing with it is probably a good idea for dental health. Really thought the discussion of calculated risk vs reward in daily life was a great point, but in this case I would say the risk outweighs the benefit. thanks a bunch for taking my comment on the show. Fun episode!

I like the discussion on the history of English.  I’d like to add another thing to the discussion of spelling.  One, the older sound of (likley the velar fricative, IPA [x]) is most definitely not a particularly odd sound — Spanish has it, as do German, Arabic, Mandarin, and a host of other languages.  Also, while many of the unusual spellings in English are indeed historical, there are a few that come from stylistic attempts to mimic French.  British spellings using as in and are like this, as is final as in .  In fact, I can think of one spelling that actually come from a false etymology: the in “island” comes from the belief that it came from French isle (it’s actually from Old English igland, from ieg ”island” + land).

EDIT: Fixed problems with linguistic usage of for graphemes with dummy spaces because I don’t know how to disable HTML here.
